When we started the building process, I knew that some parts would take a while to complete and others would go quickly. What I did not realize is just how quickly a house could be framed. It really is amazing to me that our house was completely framed within a few days. I guess it is just bricks and sticks, huh?
Today, I’ll give you a tour of our first floor.
This is the view of the outside (first floor) from the street. On the left will be our office and dining, and on the right will be family and mudrooms. The kitchen is in the center of the house.
Another view standing slightly above the first floor.
You are looking at the pantry, mudroom and stairs from this view. We decided to have a mudroom/laundry room in the back of the house. I think it’s necessary when we’ll have boots and coats to deal with in the winter. Having a first floor laundry was really important to me. I spend a lot of my life doing laundry, so I wanted to make it convenient as possible.
This is our family room. It’s going to be a great space for us to relax and spend time together. We will also have a carpeted play space in the basement, which will eventually turn into another family room where the kids can hang out when they’re older, but for now, this is our only TV room.
This is our entry, kitchen and dining rooms. There is now a wall in between the entryway (on the left) and the kitchen. You can see where our slider is in the dining room. I’m looking forward to all the light coming into the area while I’m cooking.
And finally, our office and bathroom. We decided to put our office on the main floor for a couple reasons. All of our upstairs space is being utilized for bedrooms, and sometimes basement offices can feel so dark. For our own personal use, we thought that the main floor would be best. I love that there are huge windows in it, so I’ll be able to enjoy the sunshine while I’m working. I am really looking forward to having a designated office space, as right now we have a makeshift one in our bedroom.
That’s the tour! It’s really incredible how long it took to plan all this out, but we are so happy with the results. I never knew all the decisions that would have to be made during the building process. It’s almost overwhelming!
